Climber cutting an upper limb from a mature residential tree

About this job

A mature residential tree had a broad crown spreading over the yard. A climber worked through the upper canopy, removing large horizontal limbs and upper leaders in a planned sequence while the ground crew fed brush into the chipper. The later photos show the major crown reduction and the remaining trunk being sectioned.

How the work was done

  1. A climber worked up into the crown and cut upper limbs in a planned order.
  2. Large horizontal limbs were removed in pieces to keep control of the weight.
  3. The ground crew fed brush into the chipper as the work went on.
  4. After the major crown reduction, the remaining trunk was sectioned.

Equipment in the photos

  • Climbing gear
  • Chainsaws
  • Wood chipper

Result: The broad crown was taken down in stages, with brush chipped on site so the yard stayed workable.
